General[edit]

SmashUp Fantasy Sports is a fantasy sports game that combines fantasy player points with powerup cards to allow players to compete for prizes.[1] SmashUp's initial fantasy football game was launched in 2023 and was a twist on traditional Daily Fantasy Sports games.

SmashUp Fantasy Sports is focused on innovation of competitive fantasy games and is not a daily fantasy game with entry fees or a sportsbook. Their focus is on enhancing the overall gameplay and creating new styles of fantasy games more in-line with a video game, mobile game, or board game company.

The initial game worked by setting a weekly lineup with a salary cap for player selection, but also allowed players to add SmashCards (powerup cards) to boost their player points. The user with the most amount of points (player + card points) wins the week and earns cash and prizes.[2]

This year, SmashUp is introducing two new games, including a season long variation and the world's first single player fantasy game which incorporates many elements of popular video games.

All games are free to play and are not pay-to-win.

SmashCards[edit]

SmashCards are "powerup" cards users can activate on players. SmashCards allow users to earn more points. Each week, players are allotted a certain budget for SmashCards.[3] As with popular turn based card games, such as Hearthstone, Pokémon, or Magic the Gathering; there are different categories of SmashCards including Player Boosts, Team Enhancement cards, League Effects, and Attack Cards.

Special cards have been introduced throughout the season, including event based and single week cards, such as those released to commemorate the 49ers and Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

Tournaments[edit]

SmashUp Fantasy Sports launched its initial weekly tournaments during the 2023 NFL (National Football League) season.

The tournaments are held weekly and occur during the NFL playoffs as well. Users can compete in all tournaments at any time before the last game starts.

Users get a SmashCard budget and player budget to pick their teams.

History[edit]

SmashUp Fantasy Sports is a part of Augmented Sports Inc. led by Chris Hauck & Haibo Lu. SmashUp Fantasy Sports was created in 2023 with it's inaugural season.[4]
