  • Comment: It looks like you're getting closer on the notability issue, but the language is still very unencyclopedic. You cannot say something good (or bad) about the school without directly quoting a reliable, independent, secondary source. You cannot say good (or bad) things about the subject of the draft in Wikipedia's voice. Your writing has to be from a neutral point of view. If you have a close connection to the subject or have been employed to write this draft, that may be difficult and also requires you to make certain disclosures that are outlined at the links in this sentence. As counterintuitive as it seems, when you write an encyclopedia article, you are not writing about the subject. Instead, you are reporting on what others have written about the subject. 4.37.252.50 (talk) 18:40, 5 September 2024 (UTC)

Tahaffuz Darsgah is recognized as Pakistan's first educational institution specifically designed to cater to the transgender community..[1] Located near Jallo Park in Lahore, Punjab, the school was established in 2024 as part of a broader initiative to provide inclusive education and vocational training to transgender individuals.[2] The institution was founded through a partnership between the UK Curriculum and Accreditation Body (UKCAB), a registered charity in England & Wales[3], and the Punjab Police. Tahaffuz Darsgah is a response to the need for specialized educational facilities that address the unique challenges faced by transgender individuals in Pakistan.

History

[edit]

Tahaffuz Darsgah was established to address the significant educational disparities faced by transgender individuals in Pakistan. The initiative was led by Zahid Bhatti[4], founder of the UK Curriculum and Accreditation Body (UKCAB), which has been instrumental in supporting educational and social projects for marginalized communities since its inception in 2006. Collaborating with the Punjab Police, under the leadership of Inspector General (IG) Punjab Usman Anwar[5], UKCAB played a pivotal role in bringing this groundbreaking project to life.[6] The institution was established within 18 days, demonstrating a rapid and committed response to the needs of the transgender community. The school was officially inaugurated by Mohsin Naqvi the Chief Minister of Punjab,[7] symbolizing the government's commitment to supporting vulnerable communities. As the first institution of its kind in Pakistan, Tahaffuz Darsgah has garnered significant attention for its role in advocating for the rights and education of transgender individuals.[8][9]

Facilities

[edit]

The school is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities designed to meet the unique needs of transgender students.[10] These facilities include classrooms, vocational training centers, and recreational areas, all aimed at creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment. The institution is committed to providing a safe space where transgender children can pursue their education without fear of discrimination[11]

Curriculum

[edit]

The curriculum at Tahaffuz Darsgah is comprehensive, combining formal education with vocational training. The academic program includes standard subjects, while the vocational component focuses on skills development, enabling students to gain practical experience in various trades. This dual approach is designed to prepare students for future employment opportunities and to help them achieve financial independence.

Social Impact

[edit]

Tahaffuz Darsgah represents a significant step forward in Pakistan's efforts to promote the rights and well-being of transgender individuals. By providing access to education and vocational training, the school aims to break down the barriers that have historically marginalized the transgender community.[12] The establishment of Tahaffuz Darsgah is seen as a model for future initiatives in Pakistan and beyond, demonstrating the positive impact of inclusive education.

Collaborations

[edit]

The success of Tahaffuz Darsgah is the result of a collaborative effort between the Punjab Police and the UK Curriculum and Accreditation Body (UKCAB)[13]. This partnership has been instrumental in providing the resources and expertise needed to establish the school and ensure its ongoing success.[14] Founded by Zahid Bhatti in 2006, UKCAB has a long history of supporting educational initiatives aimed at improving the lives of marginalized communities. Zahid Bhatti's visit to Pakistan for the inauguration underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing social challenges.[1]

Future Prospects

[edit]

Building on the success of Tahaffuz Darsgah in Jallo, plans are underway to expand the project to other regions of Pakistan. In a significant development, the Islamabad Police has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UKCAB to establish a similar institution in Islamabad.[15] This expansion reflects the growing recognition of the need for dedicated educational facilities for transgender individuals across the country. Tahaffuz Darsgah aims to continue its mission of providing quality education and support to transgender students, contributing to a more inclusive and equitable society.
