Terrence Adembesa (born 31 May 1981), is a Kenyan financial analyst and investment banker. He is the Chief Executive of EABX Group PLC, effective March 2022. Adembesa holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Mechanics of Derivatives and Financial Products from Middlesex University, a Global Executive Master of Business Administration from the United States International University and a Bachelor of Business Administration (Cum Laude) from the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton. A passionate and decisive corporate executive, he has notable achievements in financial sector engagements that have and continue to impact directly on the lives of ordinary East Africans.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Terrence Adembesa is the grandson of Nathan Munyovi Adembesa, Attorney at Law and the First African Town Clerk of The Municipal Council of Mombasa, Kenya.

Adembesa spent his childhood in the City of Nairobi, where he attended Visa Oshwal Primary School from 1988 to 1995. He then proceeded to Dagoretti High School in Nairobi where he studied for his secondary education from 1996 to 1999. He took a keen interest in sports, where he was named the Sports Captain and received recognition as the best rugby player and a responsible prefect at the school.

For his tertiary education, Adembesa attended the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton, in Kapsabet, Kenya between 2000 and 2004 where he was conferred with the degree of Bachelor of Business Administration (Cum Laude) Majoring in Management. At the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton, he received the Dean's List recognition for academic achievement, was a Student Forum Representative in the year 2001 to 2002 and also a Sports Coordinator in the year 2002 - 2003. He pursued the Global Master of Business Administration from 2012 to 2013 at the United States International University, in Nairobi. In 2013 while pursuing his MBA, he attended a study program at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management.

In 2016, he was awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Mechanics of Derivatives and Financial Products from the Middlesex University, London.

Career[edit]

Adembesa began his career as an Intern, in 2004, in the Fund Management Section, of the Budget and Financial Management Service at the United Nations Office in Nairobi. He was, later in 2004, recruited at the Co-operative Bank of Kenya as a Graduate Clerk and Credit Risk Officer in the Risk Management Department. While still at the Co-operative Bank, in 2005, he joined the Merchant and Investment Banking Division, as a Business Analyst and was later to be promoted into the managerial ranks as an Associate Consultant at the age of 26 years.

In 2008, he joined the Enablis Entrepreneurial Network as a Chapter Manager. He then left Enablis and joined the Nairobi Securities Exchange (then Nairobi Stock Exchange) in 2010 as the Manager, Product Development. He diligently served in that role and was appointed Director - Derivatives Markets in 2015, and later promoted to Chief Business Officer in 2021. While at the NSE, Adembesa was responsible for the strategic direction, growth and diversification of annual revenues, having led the development of the second Derivatives Market – NeXT in Africa, and the introduction of the Growth Enterprise Market Segment (GEMS), the Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), the Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and the FTSE International Index Series.

In 2022, he was named as Chief Executive Officer of the newly incorporated East Africa Bond Exchange (EABX Group) PLC Limited.

He is a member of the Institute of Certified Investment and Financial Analysts (Kenya) and a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments (UK).

Personal Life[edit]

Adembesa has served in various sporting, professional and social enterprise institutions. Some of these institutions include: as Treasurer and Director of the Kenya Rugby Union, responsible for the management of the sport and the Kenya National Rugby team, as a Director of the Association of Futures Markets, an organization that promotes and encourages the establishment of new derivative and related markets, as a Director of the Tahidi Youth Fund, the USAID funded project in Kenya aimed at providing sustainable financial and skills development assistance to approximately 200 000 youth, and as Chairman of the Good Kenyan Foundation, a social enterprise that seeks to carry out gap year mentorship programs for young adults.
