Early life and education

Tim Sheehy (born November 18, 1985) is an American businessman and combat veteran.[1]. Sheehy was born in the Twin Cities area and grew up in Shoreview, Minnesota[2], and graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a BS in history in 2008.[3][4]

Military service

He completed over 200 missions[5] in the Middle East, South America, and the Pacific AO.[6][7] Sheehy served as a Navy SEAL[8] Officer and Team Leader.[7]

Career

After being wounded in combat and injured in the line of duty several times, Sheehy was medically discharged from the military.[9][10] He moved to Montana and started Bridger Aerospace in late 2014 with an all-veteran founding team.[11] Sheehy led the growth of Bridger and its sister company, Ascent Vision Technologies, to over 300 employees.[12][13] Bridger eventually went public on the Nasdaq in 2023.[14]

Sheehy is an active firefighting pilot, working to combat wildfires in the CL415EAF "Super Scooper."[15] As of July 2, 2024, Sheehy resigned from Bridger Aerospace[16] to allow for a fully engaged chief executive officer during the fire season while he focuses on his run for office.

Political career

Sheehy announced his run for the U.S. Senate[17] as a Republican in Montana on June 27, 2023.[18] Sheehy, who has been actively recruited by Senate Republicans, is set to run against the incumbent, Jon Tester.[19] As of June 4, 2024, Tim Sheehy is the Republican Nominee[20] in the 2024 United States Senate election in Montana. He has been endorsed by former president Donald J. Trump[21], Senator Steve Daines[22], Concerned Veterans for America[23], and former United States Representative Tulsi Gabbard[24] — among others[25].

Personal life

Sheehy met his wife, Carmen Sheehy, at the Naval Academy. She served as a Marine Officer and is also a combat veteran.[3] Sheehy owns a 20,000-acre cattle ranch and has 4 children.[26]

In February 2019, Sheehy survived a plane crash[27] in Winter Haven, Florida, which resulted in the death of his flight instructor. Despite the crash, Sheehy and a 17-year-old girl in the house the plane struck walked away with minor injuries[28]. Sheehy is also an experienced pilot with certifications in flight instruction and commercial piloting.

Published Works

In December 2023, Sheehy published "Mudslingers: A True Story of Aerial Firefighting[29] (An American Origins Story)" through Permuted Press. The book combines historical context with first-person narrative to recount the history of aerial firefighting in America[30]. Drawing from his experiences as a former Navy SEAL and founder of Bridger Aerospace[31], Sheehy explores the challenges and dangers of wildfire management from the air. The author has pledged to donate all proceeds from the book to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation and the United Aerial Firefighters Association[32]
