Timothy Henning is an American actor and artistic director from Ypsilanti, Michigan. He is known for his roles in films such as Georgia Rule (2007), Race for Glory (1989), and Vanished Acres (2006).
Early Life and Education
[edit]Henning was born in Fremont, Ohio, and graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1975. He attended Columbia University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Literature/Writing in 1990.
Career
[edit]Acting
[edit]Timothy Henning has appeared in various films and theater productions. His notable film credits include Georgia Rule (2007), which was directed by Garry Marshall and starred Jane Fonda, Race for Glory (1989), and Vanished Acres (2006). He was also a regular background actor on NBC's House. Henning also worked with makeup artist Vicky Lee Chan from 2001 to 2006. He has also worked with The Encore Musical Theatre Company, NBC Universal Television Studios, and the Michigan Shakespeare Festival.
Theater
[edit]Henning has extensive experience in theater. He acted in a mainstage show and stage managed a joint touring project with the Rep and Cal-Pacific Theatre. He also served as the Artistic Director for the Black Sheep Theatre Company in Manchester, Michigan from December 1982 to December 1983.
Directorial Work
[edit]In 2007, Henning began work as the Artistic Director at Emergent Arts in Michigan.
Henning directed Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot for Emergent Arts in September 2009. The production was noted for its unique approach, balancing humor and the play’s existential themes.[1][2]
In May 2011, Henning directed the classic American comedy Arsenic and Old Lace at the Arthur Miller Theatre in the Walgreen Drama Center, Ann Arbor.[3]
Henning directed Neil LaBute's romantic comedy Fat Pig at The Mix Studio Theater in Ypsilanti in May 2015. The production was so well-received that it was extended for two additional days.[4]
Playwriting
[edit]Henning is also a playwright. In 2008, Henning wrote and directed his own stage adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol for Emergent Arts.[5]
Henning also developed a dark comedy titled Hollywood and Hyde, another modern retelling of the Jekyll and Hyde story, which was presented in staged readings at the Wolverine State Brewing Company in Ann Arbor in September 2012.[6]
In 2012, Henning wrote a new play based on the story of Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson, which was presented by Emergent Arts and produced at the Riverside Arts Center in Ypsilanti, Michigan.[7]
Henning also wrote a short comedic piece titled No Room At The Big Sleep Inn, which was performed as part of the Christmasville: a Vaudeville Holiday Show at Emergent Arts in 2013.[8]
His original play, Confessions of The Easter Bunny, was presented by Emergent Arts at The Mix Studio Theater in Ypsilanti, Michigan, with the opening night on March 26, 2014.[9]
Current Projects
[edit]Henning is involved in the Ypsilanti community through his weekly open mic improv comedy showcase, The UnClub, held every Sunday night at the Ypsi Alehouse.[10] He is currently playing three roles in a production of The Brain That Wouldn't Die! (The Musical).[11]
