Early Life and Education

Triston Ezidore (born May 30th, 2003) is an American politician, college student, and activist who serves on the Culver City Unified School District Board of Education since December 13, 2022. ^[1]^[2] ^[3] ^[4] Triston was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is the son of Jamaican and Vietnamese immigrants. Ezidore spent parts of his childhood in Sherman Oaks, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada, before settling in Culver City, California. ^[5]He graduated from Culver City High School in 2021. ^[6] After a brief period at Syracuse University, he transferred to the University of Southern California (USC) where he is currently majoring in Political Science. ^[7] ^[8]

Political Career

At 19, Ezidore made history by becoming the youngest elected official in Los Angeles County and the first Black male to serve on the Culver City Unified School Board. ^[9] ^[10] ^[11]^[12] ^[13] His campaign was motivated by the social justice movements following the murder of George Floyd in 2020. Ezidore's platform emphasized addressing educational inequities and advocating for racial and social justice within the school system.^[14]

In 2023, Ezidore was appointed Vice President of the School Board.^[15] His role includes focusing on curriculum development, student mental health, and increasing resources for underfunded schools. Known for his inclusive approach, Ezidore works to represent diverse voices within the community. ^[16] ^[17]^[18]

Challenges and Advocacy

Ezidore's tenure has not been without challenges. He has faced ageism and racial discrimination from some community members. Despite this, he has remained committed to his role, using his platform to advocate for young people's voices in governance and to combat systemic racism in education. ^[19] ^[20] ^[21]
