"Trukha-Ukraine" (also known as "Trukha", formerly "True.KHA" until 2022) is the most popular Telegram channel in Ukraine. The channel became the most popular source of information after the onset of the full-scale Russo-Ukrainian war. The Truha media holding includes 28 regional Telegram channels, most of which rank among the top five most popular Telegram channels in their respective cities. In 2022, the Trukha-Ukraine Charitable Foundation was established.[1]
History
[edit]The Telegram channel was created in November 2019 and was initially named "Tru Kharkiv". The publication covered events in Kharkiv, including accidents, crime, and city life. The channel gained several thousand to several tens of thousands of subscribers each month. By the start of the full-scale war, the channel had an audience of 190,000 subscribers, which rapidly grew with the onset of the full-scale invasion.
Full-Scale War
[edit]From the beginning of the full-scale military conflict in Ukraine, Trukha began publishing news not only about Kharkiv but also about the whole of Ukraine.[2] International news also started to appear. Subsequently, the channel was renamed from "Tru Kharkiv" to "Truha-Ukraine". At the start of the full-scale war, Trukha made up to 750 posts per day; however, by May 2022, this number had decreased to 200. Later, the number of posts was further reduced to 100 due to more rigorous filtering of incoming content and more detailed verification of information to prevent fake news and disinformation. This approach was positively received by subscribers as the quality and professionalism of the information presentation improved. [3] On October 16, 2023, a representative of the Trukha channel was invited [4] to a closed media meeting with the President of Ukraine.
Network of Channels
[edit]As the main Telegram channel developed, new projects such as regional channels began to appear. Besides Truha-Ukraine, the holding includes 28 such channels, notably in Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Kherson, and Lviv, as well as "Trukha Georgia", "Tru Ha-Ha", "Trukha Zest 18+", "Trukha Sport", and "Trukha Crypto".
Awards
[edit]Trukha received an Honorary Certificate for fighting Russian propaganda in June 2023, confirmed by Yaroslava Berezhna from Kharkiv regional military administration [5]. According to her, the publication was recognized for disseminating socially important information, including messages from law enforcement agencies and state institutions, to a million-strong audience. According to the channel itself, the Trukha team or individual administrators received awards for "Liberation of Kharkiv Region" and "Defense of the Hero City of Kharkiv", but Yaroslava Berezhna stated that the OVA does not have information about these awards.
