Planned single release[edit]
The song was originally planned to be released as the second single from the band's self titled debut album, after Break On Through (To The Other Side), after demand for Light My Fire to be released as a single, the band released Light My Fire as a single.[2]

The A.V. Club called it a " raunchy riposte to its trippy predecessor."[3]

John Densmore called the song "a little cutie"[4]
Robby Krieger said that "But even sacrificing the solo wasn't enough to appease the radio gods." on trying to get the song released as a single.[5]
Ray Manzarek said that the lyrics "Well, she's fashionably lean, And she's fashionably late. She'll never rank a scene, She'll never break a date. But she's no drag, Just watch the way she walks. She's a twentieth-century fox" was for Dorothy, his girlfriend at the time.[6] in December of that year, they would get married.
