Biography

[edit]

UNCLE VATO also known as VATO LOCO is a moroccan rapper from the hot neighborhood of C.Y.M., Rabat, recognized as one of the prominent Moroccan rappers, known for his candid approach, impeccable flow, and the relatable themes in his music that deeply resonate with a significant portion of Moroccan city youth, addressing issues like corruption, addiction, and poverty.

Career

[edit]

In 2003, Uncle Vato embarked on his rap journey as a solo artist. Two years later, he joined forces with his friends Mehdi and Abderahman to form a group named *Jnoun lmic*, with his stage name at the time being C-soldier. The group, later known as Al Mouwa7idin, came into existence in 2005.

This marked the beginning of Vato's collaborative career, starting under the name Jnoun L'Mic. After a year and a half, the group decided to rebrand as Al Mouwa7idin, reflecting their deep ties to the history of their city Rabat, particularly within areas like Yacoub el Mansour and Chellah.

In 2007, the group released their first project, a Maxi titled “7essbo Kifma Bghiti”. The Maxi featured 7 tracks along with 3 solo bonuses from each group member. The release was a significant milestone for the group, showcasing their self-produced work and their ability to overcome the challenges often faced by rap groups in production. Following the success of their first Maxi, the group set their sights on a remix of the track “Bik Wla Bla Bik”, aiming to enhance its sound and instrumentation. Additionally, Al Mouwa7idin had already initiated work on their debut album, titled L7él9a 2. This album aimed to portray the authentic essence of Al Mouwa7idin and the city of Rabat. One of the album's tracks, “Ina Tré9 Nshéd” (Featuring Viper), was released on the internet on February 14, 2008, allowing audiences to catch a glimpse of what was to come. The journey of Al Mouwa7idin was marked by perseverance and a commitment to self-expression, with promising collaborations and shows.

In 2011, Uncle Vato and his partner Mehdi took a significant step in their careers by forming the duo group DOPE DEALERS. Their collaboration not only led to joint projects but also provided opportunities for individual growth and learning.

In 2012, Vato kicked off his independent street tape venture, titling it "Mi Vida Loca." This move paved the way for the launch of numerous individual tracks.

2015, Vato Loco rebranded himself as Uncle Vato and dedicated himself entirely to his solo career as a purpose-driven rapper. His debut solo track, "CYPHER DIALI," marked the beginning of this new chapter.
