Woori Investment Securities Co., Ltd. (Korean: 우리투자증권) is a financial services company headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, and a subsidiary of Woori Financial Group.[1]
History
[edit]In 2013, Korea FOSS Securities was established, initiated by Korea Financial Investment Association along with 46 asset management companies, Korea Securities Finance Corporation, Korea Securities Depository, and fund evaluation agencies, with the aim of creating a fair and neutral sales channel. The company was initially named "Fund Online Korea."
In 2014, it began selling funds online under the name "Fund Supermarket".
In 2015, it started offering fund sales through a mobile app.
In 2016, it launched online account opening service.
In 2017, it became the first in Korea to offer private fund services online, establishing itself as a leader in online fund sales.
In 2018, Korea Securities Finance Corporation became the largest shareholder with a 52.25% stake. Given that Korea Securities Finance is the only public institution dedicated for securities finance in the country, it plays a significant role in the market. In this context, Korea FOS Securities is also seen as public oriented.
In 2019, the company changed its name from "Fund Online Korea" to "Korea FOSS Securities," and the mobile app was rebranded from "Fund Supermarket" to "FOSS."
In 2020, it launched an Individual Retirement Pension (IRP) service.
In 2021, it introduced a robo-advisor service.
In 2022, Fount, a specialized robo-advisor firm, became the second-largest shareholder.[2]
On August 1, 2024, Korea FOS Securities merged with Woori Investment Bank to launch as Woori Investment Securities, a subsidiary of Woori Financial Group.[3]
'S' class Fund
[edit]The 'S' class Fund is a special type of fund permitted by government to support the growth of public fund market. The 'S' in 'S Class' stands for the 'S' in Fund 'Super'market.
