Ximena Berecochea Fernández is a Mexican photographer and visual artist known for her multidisciplinary work, in which she connects her photographic work with linguistic elements and literary texts. She is the author of the photographs illustrating the novel Shiki Nagaoka: una nariz de ficción (2002) by Mario Bellatin, which is studied in academic circles for its biographical fiction value. Her work is part of important collections such as the National Photographic Archive of the Photographic Library of the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH) in Pachuca, Mexico; the Walter Phillipps Collection at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Canada, and the Collection of the Museo del Carmen in Mexico City. Alongside her career as a visual artist, Berecochea pursued a master's and a Ph.D. in Hispanic Literature at the University of Toronto. She lives in Canada and teaches Latin American and Spanish language, literature, and culture at different universities in Ontario. She is Co-founder and Co-director of the Institute for Creative Exchange (ICE Americas).
