Eric Prydz

Eric Sheridan Prydz (born July 19, 1976) is a Swedish DJ and producer based in London. The pronunciation of his surname is often questioned. It is pronounced "prids", but when under his alias, Pryda, it is pronounced "pride-ah". [1] On October 28, 2009, DJ Magazine announced the results of their annual Top 100 DJ Poll, and Prydz placed at #34.

Early Life

Prydz was born into a working class family in Stockholm. Through his teen years he became a bedroom DJ and began hosting small parties for his aunts and uncles. Prydz continued on to make more up and coming tracks.

Music career

In 2004, Prydz released the single "Call on Me", which sampled Steve Winwood's single "Valerie". The single was a success and topped the UK singles chart for five weeks. The song also became number one in Germany, and remained on the German Top-100 single chart for six consecutive weeks.

He is also known for his cover remix of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)" entitled "Proper Education" and also for the song "Woz Not Woz" (with Steve Angello).

He also released the summer 2008 single "Pjanoo" which has become a huge hit in the UK, reaching the number 2 position with only download sales. His 2008 single "Pjanoo" was also used in the teaser trailer for Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony, an expansion for Grand Theft Auto IV, and was also part of DJ Hero's soundtrack, even though the song was not released for the game.

Other projects

Aside from producing music Prydz also runs the record labels Pryda, Pryda Friends, and Mouseville, which release most of his own music. On Pryda, he releases music as Pryda. On Mouseville, he produces under Cirez D. Under his Cirez D moniker, Prydz has had several underground hits with tracks such as "On Off" and "Glow", amongst others, which regularly receive widespread support.

Until recently, Prydz had only played shows in and around Europe as he has a fear of flying.[2]

"Proper Education" was nominated for the 2008 Grammy for Best Remixed Recording.

As Pryda, Prydz has had success with the songs "Aftermath", "Europa", "Genesis", "Melo", "Miami To Atlanta", "Shadows", "The End".
