Farm to Market Road 855, or FM 855, runs about 11.6 miles (18.7 km) from just east of Cuney, Texas north and east, to Mount Selman.

Route description

FM 855 has no local street names. Rural for the most part, the landscape along the road includes rolling hills of alternating open pastures and trees. The east shore of Lake Palestine can be seen to the west of the road just south of the FM 346 intersection. The road serves just the 2 towns of Cuney and Mount Selman as well as the southeast portion of Lake Palestine, all in the northwest part of Cherokee County.

History

After initial commissioning in 1948, the road spanned around 5 miles (8.0 km) in length from Mount Selman westward. An extension was commissioned by 1951 to connect FM 855 at its current west terminus at US 175. One railroad previously crossed FM 855 at-grade, on the approach from the west prior to the east terminus at US 69; the Cotton Belt rail line there was abandoned and removed in the mid-1980s.

Major intersections

The entire route is in Cherokee County.
