This image was published in the Calgary Herald in August 1973, when the Penny Lane Mall opened. In 1973 gutting and renovating heritage buildings, reserving the facade, and renovating them with modern interiors was relatively unprecedented, and when the structure was demolished 33 years later the paper would describe its demolition as marking the end of a chapter in Calgary's history
