Since then the wartygrowth ou the right hand was removed, and both hands at the present time (January 1910) showmarked improvement. ACTION OF THE RONTGEN RAYS. 401 Kienbock^ classifies X-ray burns as follows : Those of the first degree, which appear from twelve to sixteen or more days afterexposure. The hair loosens, falls out, and leaves the skin smooth, bald, and occa-sionally pigmented. Those of the second degree, where the exposure has been more intense andappears after a briefer interval than in burns of the first degree. There is localizedor general swelling. The hypen^mia, at first light, later assumes a darker color.There is marked irritation. These symptoms are followed by loss of hair, and bymarked cutaneous pigmentation with subsequent scaling ; the skin is smooth and sen-sitive, of a delicate hue, and devoid
