The claim in the EXIF data that the copyright on this file is owned by "National Portrait Gallery, London" seems questionable at best under US copyright law given that the photo is supposed to have been taken and first published in 1918, which seems to make in fall within the public domain at least in the US per {{PD-US-expired-abroad}}. In addition, US copyright law doesn't seem to consider the digitalization of public domain images (i.e. the slavish reproduction) a sufficient act in and of itself to generate a new copyright for the digitalized versions per Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corp., and this also seems to be the position of the Wikimedia Foundation per National Portrait Gallery and Wikimedia Foundation copyright dispute, -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:50, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
