Filip Kiss (pronounced [ˈfɪlɪp ˈkɪʃ], Template:Lang-hu; born 13 October 1990) is a Slovak footballer who plays for Championship club Cardiff City as a midfielder.

Career

Kiss started his professional career at Inter Bratislava in 2008, before moving to Petržalka the following year where he made 23 league appearances. He again moved in 2010 to ŠK Slovan Bratislava.

Cardiff City

On 21 July 2011, Kiss joined Welsh club Cardiff City, who play in the English Championship, on a season long loan.[1] He made his debut in a pre-season loss to Bournemouth coming as a substitute, after the game both Kiss and Cardiff manager, Malky Mackay stated they wanted to extend the deal past the season long loan.[2] His first start for the Bluebirds was against Yeovil Town and the following day he was given the number 4 shirt for the season.[3] However Kiss missed the first six games of the season with a hamstring injury. On 26 August, Malky Mackay confirmed he will be part of the squad to play Portsmouth the following day[4] Despite making the bench Kiss didn't make an appearance in the 1-1 draw. He made his debut in a 2-0 win over Doncaster Rovers, he came on as a substitute for Craig Conway. Kiss made his full debut the following game in a 1-1 draw with Blackpool.[5] His first goal came against Derby County on 2 November.[6] Kiss, was used as a substitute in the League Cup final against Liverpool, which ended in a 3-2 penalty loss to Liverpool. Cardiff improved on this by reaching the play-offs despite losing 5-0 to West Ham United on aggregate, Kiss saw the season as a positive season and confirmed that an agreement had been reached between Cardiff City and Slovan Bratislava, so that Kiss could sign on a permanent contract on 1 July.[7]

International career

Kiss has represented both Slovakia U-19 and Slovakia U-21. He is currently the captain of the Under-21 team.

Personal life

Kiss belongs to the Hungarian minority in Slovakia.[8]
