Dr.Finian Tan is a venture capitalist[5] and entrepreneur. He is chairman of Vickers Venture Partners.[4][2] Dr.Tan was asked to be a judge on the Singapore reality program Angel's Gate.[6]

Career

Dr.Tan served two and a half years in the Singaporean Armed Forces. He was placed in the Armed Forces Counseling Center to counsel his peers.[1]

He became chief trader for Shell Japan, and then worked for J Aron & Co., a Goldman Sachs company.[1] In 1996, Dr. Tan earned his qualification to work for elite public service posts in Singapore, and became deputy secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry.[4][2][3] After that, he worked as deputy chairman of the National Science & Technology Board. In 2000, Tan became a partner at Draper Fisher, a venture capital firm.[1][7] Dr. Tan later became head of Credit Suisse First Boston group of banks in Singapore and Malaysia.[8]

In 2004, he and three partners founded Vickers Capital Group.[4][1] Vickers invests in companies including United Eagle Airlines, Asian Food Channel and Vitamin Research Asia Pacific.[3] Also in 2004, Dr. Tan became co-chairman of the organizational committee of a campaign called "Romancing Singapore". The campaign was aimed at raising reproduction rates in Singapore by making the country more romantic.[9]

In 2011, Dr. Tan was asked to be a judge on the Singapore reality program Angel's Gate, a reality TV series where entrepreneurs attempt to earn investment offers produced by Interactive SG.[6][10]

Other activities

Dr. Tan was the chairman of the investment review committee of the Media Development Authority in Singapore.[2] He is the primary shareholder and chairman of California InterContinental University, having invested $11.5 million in the school.[11] Dr. Tan was on the board of Majulah Connection[12] and United Eagle Airlines.[13] He has served on the National Arts Council[14] and the Media Development Authority of Singapore.[15]
