"Forever Young" is a K-pop song recorded by South Korean girl group Blackpink and is the second track in the group's first mini-album Square Up. It was written by Future Bounce and Teddy Park, who is also the producer alongside 24, R.tee and Bekuh Boom. According to Gaon, the song has already sold 2,500,000 digital downloads in Korea, making it the group's fifth song overall and their second to achieve a Platinum certification for selling 2.5 million downloads from the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA).

A Japansese version of the song was included in the group's first Japanese studio album, Blackpink in Your Area.

Background and composition

The song was recorded in 2015, even before Blackpink's official debut in August 2016. An old Instagram video from 15 November, 2015 shows the song blasting from YG Entertainment’s building in Seoul, South Korea. In the video u can hear Rosé and Lisa’s singing their lines from the first verse.[1][2][3]

"Forever Young" was written by Teddy and Future Bounce, and produced by Teddy, 24, R.Tee and Bekuh Boom. It runs for three minutes and fifty-seven seconds.[4]. Tamar Herman Billboard characterized "Forever Young" as a beachy, moombhaton-based song, within which they declare that BlackPink is "the revolution".[5]

Dance practice video

On June 20, the dance practice video for "Forever Young" was released on Blackpink's official YouTube channel. As of December 2019 it has over 120 million views and 1.9 million likes on YouTube.[6]

Chart performance

The song peaked at #2 on the Gaon Digital Chart and stayed in the chart for 25 weeks. The song also reached #2 on most real-time charts in Korea, most notably on MelOn. The song was certified platinum (download) by Gaon and KMCA, for selling 2.5 million digital downloads. It also peaked at number 2, 4, 10 and 36 on the K-pop Hot 100, the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart, the RMNZ Hot Singles chart and Billboard Japan Hot 100 respectively.
