Francis Kalnay was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1899. He came to the United States in 1919 and settled in Carmel, California, where he wrote children's books. He is the author of Chucaro: Wild Pony of the Pampa, which won a Newbery Honor in 1959.[1][2]
