Cubert, Dwight and their friends are playing Dungeons and Dragons at the Planet Express conference table with their friends. Bender approaches and begins playing, soon becoming obsessed with the concept of role playing. Bender becomes upset when the boys question whether or not he has an imagination, and on a mission Fry attempts to make him feel better. Suddenly, the Planet Express ship runs out of dark matter fuel. At the gas station, Leela is confronted by rednecks and decides to enter a demolition derby in order to show them up. Back at Planet Express, the Professor bans the crew from taking the ship and confiscates the keys due to the high prices of dark matter fuel. With help from Zoidberg, Leela retrieves the keys and heads to the derby. Beating the rednecks and thus winning the demolition derby, Leela, Fry and Bender head home - although with a wrecked Planet Express ship.
With fuel prices skyrocketing, the Planet Express crew sets off on a dangerous mission: to infiltrate the world's only dark-matter mine, source of all spaceship fuel. But deep beneath the surface of this mystery lies a far stranger dilemma for the heroes of Planet Express... a medieval land of dragons and sorcery, a product of Bender's problematic imagination sets the crew on a whirlwind adventure.

Upon waking up, the Professor doesn't notice the problems with the ship, but becomes enraged upon realising someone has been wasting the expensive dark matter fuel. Leela confesses, and as a result has an electric necklace attached, shocking her whenever she feels angry. Leela attempts to convince Zoidberg to take the shocker off of her. Zoidberg believes Leela's mutant parents are to blame for her attitude, and takes her to have dinner with them.

Fry, worried at Bender's remaining obsession with Dungeons and Dragons, arrives and asks Leela if she has seen him. Suddenly, Bender enters. Believing he is still playing Dungeons and Dragons, he accidentally sets Leela's parents' house on fire. Fry pretends to use a freeze attack on Bender, to which the robot succumbs and is committed to the HAL Institute For Criminally Insane Robots.

Bender's treatment at the HAL Institute proves worthless, as he remains convinced that he is playing Dungeons and Dragons. Meanwhile, the rest of the Planet Express crew see an interview with Mom on television and realise she is hoarding the world's dark matter supply. Professor Farnsworth reveals that he is the reason that dark matter can be used as fuel; when he was dating Mom he placed dark matter in a particle accelerator, creating two conflicting crystals that allow the dark matter to be used as an energy source. One of the crystals remained in the possession of Mom, while the Professor kept the other. Unfortunately, the Professor can't remember where he hid the crystal and activates it's tracking system. The location of the crystal instantly appears on Mom's computer, and she sends her sons to retrieve it. Under the guise of owl exterminators, Walt, Larry and Ignor discover the crystal is being used by the boys as a dice for Dungeons and Dragons. The Professor suddenly appears with a rogue owl, which attacks Mom's sons. The Professor grabs the crystal and flees.

The Professor plans to travel to Mom's dark matter mine in Alaska and place the two crystals together. The resulting reaction will render all dark matter throughout the universe to no longer work as fuel, thus bankrupting Mom. Arriving in Alaska, Fry, Leela and Professor Farnsworth distract Mom's three sons, while sneaking into the dark matter plant. They are shocked to discover that no dark matter mine exists. Instead, Mom has caged all Nibblonians and forces them to constantly excrete dark matter. Mom's youngest son, Ignor, arrives and convinces Fry, Leela and Farnsworth to hide before his brothers, Walt and Larry, arrive. However, the escape is fruitless. Mom spots them attempting to escape across pipes suspended above her desk.

Mom spots the Professor holding his crystal, and demands he hands it over. The Professor swallows the crystal. Suddenly, all dark matter begins glowing. Bender, who is still convinced that he is playing Dungeons and Dragons, is carrying dark matter inside his case from once cleaning up after Nibbler. The activated dark matter, coupled with Bender's imagination, transports himself, the Planet Express crew, Mom and her songs into a land of fantasy. Initially, Fry remains the same, whilst Leela and Hermes become centaurs, Bender becomes a king, Zoidberg becomes a monster, Professor Farnsworth becomes a wizard and Amy becomes a nymph.

Larry, Walt and Ignor arrive and attempt to kill Fry in order to retrieve the crystal. However, in this world it has become the 'dice of power', and controls what occurs throughout the universe. Fry drops the dice of power, which rolls a 7 - "banish foes". The three brothers are banished to a swamp. Carrying on, Fry, Leela and Bender come across the Professor, who helps to heal wounds inflicted upon Fry by Walt and Ignor. The Professor reveals that the dice can only be destroyed in the plastic from which it was created; at the Geyser of Gygax. Soon, the travelers come across a tunnel guarded by a fierce monster. Amy, as a nymph, emerges from a nearby lake, seduces the guard and allows the others to pass. Inside, they are warned about a tunneling monster. Zoidberg appears, and believing he is the tunneling monster is killed by Leela. Learning of her mistake, Leela vows to never kill another creature and throws her sword away in protest. This cuts Zoidberg's head off, which then grows tentacles which allow him to come back to life and follow the group. All of a sudden the tunneling horror appears. In terror, Fry drops the dice, which rolls a 3 - "grow". Fry becomes the size of the monster, and easily defeats it.

Following this, Fry becomes obsessed with the power of the dice and no longer wishes for it to be destroyed. One night, Fry attempts to kill Bender, Amy and the Professor so that they will not take the dice off of him. They escape, and ender the Wipe Castle, in which Bender's old friend Roberto resides. They wish to use his army to help defeat Mom and her sons, but are shocked to learn that Roberto does not have an army to defend him. Suddenly, Mom's army arrives and attempts to take over the castle. Just as they are about to kill the Professor and Amy, the centaurs, lead by Leela and Hermes, arrive and stop them.

Meanwhile, Fry and Zoidberg arrive at the Geyser of Gygax where they have a mental crises over whether or not to destroy the dice of power. Mom attempts to take possession of the dice by turning into a dragon. Once again the dice is dropped, this time rolling a 12 - "mirror mania". This results in Fry also becoming a dragon. He and Mom fight as Zoidberg toys with the idea of destroying the dice or keeping it for himself. Amy, Leela, Bender and the Professor arrive just as Mom and Fry, too injured to remain in their dragon forms, once again become human. Ignor, wanting to once again save the group, reveals to the Professor that he is his son, which is why he wants to protect him. The Professor falls off a ledge and lands on Zoidberg, who is still holding the dice. The group is sucked into a hole in the ground, and returns to the dark matter plant in Alaska.

Mom still wants the crystal, but the Professor asks for one last wish before giving it up - to hug his son, Ignor. Moronically, Ignor has eaten the crystal that was in Mom's possession, and during the hug both crystals come close enough to render all dark matter supplies worthless. Upon being asked what will now be used as an energy source, the Professor replies that he will now use Nibbler power. The Planet Express crew returns to New New York in the ship, being pulled by a group of hungry Nibblonians.

Futurama: Bender's Game is the third of the four planned Futurama films.[1] The title appears to be a reference to the Hugo and Nebula award winning novel Ender's Game.

A preview of Bender's Game is one of the bonus features on the Beast with a Billion Backs DVD.[2]

The film's story was developed by David X. Cohen and Eric Horsted. The teleplay was written by Eric Horsted (Parts One and Two), Michael Rowe & Eric Kaplan (Part Three), and David X. Cohen & Patric M. Verrone (Part Four).
