German submarine U-531

Unterseeboot 531 or U-531 was a German U-Boat that was sunk on its very first patrol during World War II. U-531 had a crew of 54, under the command of Herbert Neckel. It first launched on August 12th, 1942.

Combat actions

On April 13th, 1943, U-531 departed its base in Kiel on active patrol. On April 22nd, 1943, at 1529 hrs it came under attack from Allied aircraft of RAF squadron 190, suffering minor damage. At 2200 hrs it again came under Allied attack, from aircraft of RAF squadron 206, again suffering only minor damage. However, it sank with all hands on May 6th, 1945.
