Gieten is a town in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 13 km east of Assen.
Gieten was a separate municipality until 1998, when it became a part of Aa en Hunze.[1]
In 2001, the town of Gieten had 4175 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 2.1 km², and contained 1778 residences.[2] The statistical area "Gieten", which can also include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 5360.[3]
