Golos (Russian: Голос; English: The Voice) is a Russian reality talent show that premiered on 5 October 2012 on the Channel One Russian television network. The Golos is part of the international syndication The Voice based on the reality singing competition launched in the Netherlands as The Voice of Holland. Dina Garipova was declared the first winner on 29 December 2012. Sergei Volchkov won season two, while Alexandra Vorobyova won season three.

The show was used to select Russia's representative in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013, Dina Garipova.[1]

The second season was aired on 6 September 2013.

Format

The format for Golos differs from a traditional talent show. Many of the contestants are professional vocalists and represents a broad range of musical genres and vocal capabilities. A key difference compared to other televised vocal competition shows is the high demand on the vocal coaches and the significant respect afforded to each participant. The coaches do not simply offer each contestant a critique or suggest that the contestant change his or her approach to singing and performing, but rather work with each contestant on equal terms, providing in-depth analysis and detailed recommendations in an effort to help each contestant create the best possible all-around performance.

The winner of the first season of the final, which took place on December 29, 2012 was Dina Garipova, a member of Aleksander Gradsky's team. She was subsequently selected as the Russian representative to the Eurovision Song Contest 2013.

Rules

"Golos" consists of three phases: a blind audition, a battle phase, and live performance shows. Four judges/coaches, all noteworthy recording artists, choose teams of contestants through a blind audition process. Each judge has the length of the auditioner's performance (about one minute) to decide if he or she wants that singer on his or her team; if two or more judges want the same singer (as happens frequently), the singer has the final choice of coach.
