Ted McGinley was added to the cast in Howard's place as Marion's nephew Roger Phillips, and Cathy Silvers was introduced as Joanie's best friend Jenny Piccalo (after the character was only mentioned in prior seasons, but was never seen). Lynda Goodfriend joined the main cast as Richie's soon-to-be-wife Lori Beth.
- Henry Winkler, Al Molinaro, Scott Baio, and Tom Bosley appear in all episodes.
- Marion Ross and Erin Moran were absent for one episode each.
- Anson Williams was absent for two episodes.
