Heathcote Community
Heathcote Community is a medium-sized intentional community located in rural Maryland, USA, about 30 miles (48 km) north of Baltimore. The community was founded by Mildred Loomis in 1965.
Heathcote, situated on a 44-acre (18 ha) community land trust next to a 68-acre (280,000 m2) plot owned by some of its members, had a total of about 20 adult and child members as of 2006.
The meals at Heathcote are organic and vegetarian. The community also has a permaculture focus[1] and is currently being re-created as a permaculture demonstration site.
While Heathcote, as a whole, does not practice income-sharing, a group of its members have formed the Shantagani Income-Sharing Pod;[2] Shantagani is a Community in Dialog (CID) of the Federation of Egalitarian Communities (FEC).[3] Heathcote is a member of the School of Living Community Land Trust.[4]
