Herman Hu (Chinese: 胡曉明) (b. Feb 1954)[1] is the Chairman of the Council of City University of Hong Kong. Hu is a Member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Hong Kong deputy to the 12th National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China (NPC).[2] Hu was one of the first Election Committee members to nominate Leung Chun-ying for the post of Chief Executive of Hong Kong.[3][4] Hu is the head of Ryoden Development Ltd and is the son of Hu Fa-kuang.

In April 2014 it was reported that Hu is being sued by a former employee of City University of Hong Kong who is known to have previously brought 4 legal proceedings against the university,[5] a former colleague there,[6] the President of the university[7] and Hong Kong's Electoral Affairs Commission respectively,[8] for defamation for allegedly describing him as a "sworn brother" ("契弟"),[9] a pejorative Cantonese term meaning "boyish male prostitute".[10]
