Herolind Xhavit Shala (born 1 February 1992) is a Kosovar-Albanian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Kasımpaşa on loan from Sparta Prague.

Career

Early career

He was born in Porsgrunn to Albanian parents from Kosovo.[1] Shala has previously played for Tollnes and Notodden.[2]

Sparta Prague

On 11 January 2015 Shala joined AC Sparta Prague of the Czech Republic, signing a 3-year and half contract.[3] He made his debut on 23 February 2015, starting in the 4–1 win against Příbram before being substituted off for Václav Kadlec in the 54th minute.[4]

International

Norway youth-levels

He has represented Norway at under-17 and under-21 level.[5]

Albania

Being of Albanian descent from Kosovo, on 4 June 2013 Shala received the Albanian citizenship among Albania senior side Agon Mehmeti and fellow Albania U21 players Haxhi Neziraj, Valentin Gjokaj & Amir Rrahmani.[6]

When he was called up for both the Norwegian and the Albanian under-21 team in May 2013, he withdrew from the Norwegian squad as he wanted to represent Albania instead.[7] On 11 July 2013 he made his debut for the Albanian U-21 team against Bosnia and Herzegovina U21 by playing full 90-minutes.[8]

He was called up for the closing match of the 2015 UEFA European Under-21 qualification on 5 March 2014, against Austria.[9] He played as a starter and scored the last goal for his side in the 57th minute, where the match finished in an away 1–3 victory with other goals scored by Enis Gavazaj and Vasil Shkurti.[10]

Albania senior team

He received his first senior national team call-up by the Albania national football team coach Gianni De Biasi for the UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying match against Portugal on 7 September 2014.[11]

He made his debut for senior team on 14 November 2014 in the "Group I" Friendly Match against the Euro 2016 hosts, France, by coming on as a substitute in the 76th minute in place of Ermir Lenjani.[12] In the other match against Italy Shala played once again as a substitute at this time in the 71st minute in place of Amir Abrashi.[13]

Kosovo

He received an invitation from Albert Bunjaki to play for Kosovo , after a few hours he immediately accepted Kosovo's invite to represent his country.[14] Shala made his debut Kosovo in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying 6-0 loss to Croatia on 6 October 2016.[15]
