Hwarang (Korean화랑; Hanja花郞) is an upcoming South Korean television series starring Park Seo-joon, Go Ara and Park Hyung-sik. It will air every Monday and Tuesday at 22:00 (KST) on KBS2, starting from December 19, 2016.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Synopsis

Revolves around an elite male youth called Hwarang who grow through passion and love in Seorabeol, the capital of the Kingdom of Silla[7]

Cast

Principal

A young man of low birth who rises above his situation in life to become a legendary Hwarang warrior.
A half aristocrat, half commoner with a cheerful and straightforward personality, as well as good work ethics.
A young and distrustful king who secretly becomes a Hwarang warrior, gaining strength and leadership ability in the process.
An aristocrat born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Hot-blooded and chivalrous, he is seen as a playboy but is devoted in love.
Having been taught politics from an early age, he is cold-blooded, competitive and seeks for more power.
Beautiful and mysterious, he possesses a sharp tongue.
The youngest of the group, he is bright and innocent.

Production

First script reading took place March, 2016. Filming began on March 31st and finished on September 1.[9][10]

The series serves as a reunion for Go Ara and Sung Dong-il who previously worked together in the drama Reply 1994.
