Icesi University (Template:Lang-es) is a private university located in Cali, Colombia. The campus is located in the area of Pance, south of the city. Founded in 1979 by a group of businessmen in the region, the university offers undergraduate programs, specializations and master's degree studies. There are 3,813 undergraduate, 407 masters and 345 specialization students. The university offers knowledge in the areas of administration and economics, humanities, engineering, natural sciences and, recently, health; counting in this way with 19 programs, 6 of them with high quality accredited, 4 masters and 16 programs of specializations. The number of teachers is 133 of which 20 have doctorates, 32 doctorates in course and 47 are masters. The number of students per teacher is approximately 25, the same as the average number of students per group.

Increased Curriculum

In 2008, committed with the aim of expanding its presence in different areas of knowledge, the University opened the doors to the new faculty of natural sciences, with three new undergraduate programs: Biology, Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Chemistry and the Medicine program. That same year, the University welcomed the renewal for four years, the Quality Accreditation by the Ministry of National Education, the program of Systems Engineering, and began the process for renewal of accreditation program management. Similarly, the University continued to develop self-assessment processes for institutional accreditation and the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences continued the process of accreditation that gives The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, AACSB International.

Gender makeup

The university has a relatively equal mix of female and male students. But inequality is evident in various programs of the College of Administrative Sciences and Economics, such as the International Marketing and Advertising, Accounting and International Finance, where a large percentage are women. In the case of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences, in all programs, around 65% of students are women (78% in Psychology and 53% in Sociology). As for the Faculty of Engineering, inequalities are most visible as 80% of students in Engineering are men, like the Interactive Media Design and Engineering Telematics programs. But it is worth noting that in the program of Industrial Design there are 20% more women than men. Finally, the Faculty of Natural Sciences, is balance in Biology, Chemistry 85% of students are men and Pharmaceutical Chemistry 75% are women.

Academic averages

Programs with better academic average for the second half of 2008 are International Accounting and Finance, Industrial Design, Industrial Engineering and Economics and Business with Internacioles around 3.78 and 3.77. The lowest averages were recorded for the university careers of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Design and Interactive Media Sociology: the first with an average of 3 and two with an average of 3.5. This is strange because the programs mentioned above are relatively new (opened in 2006, 2007 and 2008). At the University there are approximately 270 students enrolled in Joint Degree. 33% of the student body have scholarships, full or partial and from various sources.

In 2008, the university had 15 research groups in Colciencias. Of these 15 groups, 12 are recognized, of whom 8 were echelons (1 in category A, category B at 6 and 1 in category C).It has a library with over 41,000 volumes. For the second half of 2009 are expected to be completed new buildings of Natural Science and Health and their respective laboratories.

Accreditations

The MBA program from ICESI has the AMBA accreditation. The faculty is in process to get the AACSB International accreditation.
