Iván H. Ayala Cádiz[a] was a mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico from 1988 to 1989, after the resignation of Mayor José Dapena Thompson.
Assignment
Ayala Cadiz was previously assistant dean at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico School of Law. He finished off Dapena Thompson's last few weeks mayoral term[1] (December 1988 to January 1989) via appointment by his political party, the PNP.[2] In 1988, former elected mayor Dapena Thompson had been charged as co-author of embezzlement of federal funds from HUD;[3] as a result he had resigned as mayor.[4] Ayala Cádiz had also been a Superior Court Judge in 2004.[5]
