James Archibald Hamilton (1748–1815) was an Irish astronomer and priest.

He became Rector of Kildress and also set up an observatory in Cookstown. In 1784 Hamilton resigned Kildress and was briefly Rector of Dunbin then Treasurer of Armagh Cathedral and Rector of Creggan. In 1790 he became the first Director of the Armagh Observatory and in 1804 he was appointed Dean of Cloyne: he held both posts until his death on 21 November 1815.[1]
