Jodhpur Park Boys School also known as JPBS is a government-sponsored higher secondary school in the state of West Bengal, India. The school offers education in Bengali medium with English as the second language. Other subjects are taught as per the norms of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education.

History

The school was established in 1961.

Headmasters

Sri P.K.Sen was the first headmaster, in 1961. He was succeeded by Sri Dhirendra Ranjan Bhattacharya.

Following the retirement of Sri Dhirendra Ranjan Bhattacharya. Sri Rabindranath Som, took charge for 17 years. The three-storeyed annexe building which at present houses the three science laboratories and the Internet Learning Center and another Computer Literacy Lab, were set up and the blue print of the second annexe building was made during his tenure. The school also received grants from the MP Lad fund of Shri Biplab Dasgupta and Smt Mamata Banerjee, and the development fund of MLA Shri Saugata Roy following his initiative.

Dr. Subhrendu Bhattacharjya, a senior member of staff and the then AHM then officiated as headmaster, then Mr. R.N.Som took charge.

Dr. Gopal Chandra Nandy the post of headmaster. He took charge in February 2004. With his initiative & the money received from the M.P. Lad fund, the auditorium was renovated. The school has received grants from the M.P. Lad fund of Shri Mukul Roy and Sri Swapan Sadhan Basu, and from SSM, following his initiatives, and the second 3-storeyed-annexe building has been built.

Improvements under Dr Nandy

  • Air conditioned Seminar hall with projector, smart class room equipments and audio-video facilities on the third floor of the new annex building has been set up.
  • The roof of the old building is protected by a shed with tubular truss.
  • The condition of the school play ground has been improved. A garden in front of the school with stream has been set up.
  • The boundary wall of the school has been renovated and raised by a further four feet.
  • The school has four water purification systems (aqua guards) to ensure pure drinking water and the electricity has been increased from 9 KW to 30KW.
  • Underground water reservoir and overhead tanks have been built.
  • Computer science has been introduced in the secondary and higher secondary classes. Hindi has been introduced as the third language.
  • The school has opened an English medium section in the secondary section.
  • There is an Eco-Club in the school, which disseminates environmental awareness among students.
  • The school arranges inter-school and inter-class (secondary/higher secondary level) football tournaments.
  • Science based seminars and science exhibitions are organized to keep students abreast with happenings in the field of science and technology.
  • Students are taught in a digitally augmented classroom with the help of projector and other equipment such as K-YAN.
  • The school has a Human Rights club. The club members have attended seminars on human rights and have been working on issues and agenda.
  • The school in collaboration with its guardians’ forum has arranged Blood Donation Camps in the school compound.
  • Bratachari was introduced to the school in 2009.
  • The students have achievedl academic excellence awards such as The Telegraph School Award for consecutive years. The students rank highly in competitive exams like AIIMS, JEM, JEE, ISI.

Infrastructure

The 3-storeyed structure of the school stands on 9 bighas of land donated by The Bengal Secretariat Cooperative Land Mortgage Bank and Housing Society Ltd in the pollution free verdant green surrounding of Jodhpur Park.

School emblem, mMotto, song and prayer

The school motto is Satyameva jayate, as illustrated in the school's emblem. The emblem is of a lamp. Jana Gana Mana is the school song.

School events

  • School Magazine:

The magazine is published annually by the School. Poems, articles and paintings of students of all classes are published in it.

  • Magazine for Environmental Awareness:

Called the "Eco-Voice", it contains poems and articles written by the student about environmental awareness.

  • Sports, exhibitions and excursions:

The school organizes the annual athletic meet in winter.

  • Celebrations:

Independence day is celebrated every year on 15 August in the school premises. Republic Day,and Saraswati Puja are also celebrated.

School calendar

Summer and Durga Puja vacations are about a month each and are in May–June and September–October, respectively. Winter vacation is in the last week of December.

Uniform

  • General uniform: White half or full sleeve shirts with the school monogram. Dark grey trousers, white socks and black leather shoes.
  • Physical education dress: White shirts with the school monogram. White shorts, white socks and white shoes.
  • For winter:Navy blue sweater, navy blue scarf.
