Joselito Altarejos is an accomplished Filipino filmmaker having won several prestigious awards in the Philippines and as well as internationally. He is well known for his ground-breaking openly gay-themed film features like The Man in the Lighthouse (in Tagalog Ang Lalake sa Parola), Antonio's Secret (in Tagalog Ang Lihim ni Antonio), Kambyo, The Game of Juan's Life (in Tagalog Ang Laro ng Buhay ni Juan ), Pink Halo-Halo, Unfriend.[1]

Pink Halo-Halo, the first ever long feature using Tigaonon, the language of the people of Ticao Island in Masbate was nominated for "Best Film" during the 6th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival. His film Unfriend premiered at the 64th Berlin Internationai Film Festival and is distributed internationally by Fortissimo Films.[1]

His film KASAL (The Commitment) won Best Film at the 10th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, Director's Showcase, in 2014. The same film also won Best in Cinematography, Production Design and Original Music. KASAL also bagged the Best Film-Special Jury Prize at the 2015 Gawad Tanglaw.

His recent film TPO (Temporary Protection Order), which is about Domestic violence, won for him and co-writer Archie del Mundo Best Screenplay at the 2nd Sinag Maynila Independent Film Festival this year. TPO also bagged the Best Sound. He is on his post-production of SIKLO, which is the second in his trilogy of films on women and children.

He has also directed a number of television series, notably the youth-oriented POSH and the long-running 98 episode TV series Legacy on the GMA Network. In most of his television work, he is credited as Jay Altarejos and Jay Altajeros mostly reserving his full name Joselito Altarejos to his long feature films.
