Joy L. Bauer, MS, RD, CDN (born November 6, 1963), is the founder of Joy Bauer Nutrition Centers[1] and the nutrition expert on the Today Show.[2] She is also the co-host, with Florence Henderson, of the RLTV show "Good Food, Good Deeds." [3]

Career

Joy Bauer began her career with a five-year post as Director of Nutrition and Fitness for the "Heart-Smart Kids Program", a program that she developed for The Mount Sinai Medical Center's Department of Pediatric Cardiology in New York City. Joy also served as nutrition consultant for the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, where she designed and supervised their ongoing research in eating disorders and weight management. In addition, Joy served as the clinical nutritionist with the neurosurgical team at The Mount Sinai Medical Center and taught Anatomy and Physiology and Sports Nutrition at New York University's School of Continuing Education. She also served as the exclusive nutritionist for New York University's faculty, students, and athletes. As the founder and CEO of Joy Bauer Nutrition, Joy headed one of the largest nutrition centers in the country for close to two decades.[4]

Passionate about giving people scientifically sound health information, Joy received the 2010 National Media Excellence Award from the American Dietetic Association.

Family Life

Joy lives in New York with her husband, Ian, her daughters Jesse and Ayden Jane, and her son Cole.[5]

Bauer is the author of a number of cookbooks and books about diet including:

  • Joy's LIFE Diet (ISBN 978-0-06-166574-5), a book reviewed in Publishers Weekly, Jan. 2009, and placed No. 1 on the April 29, 2007 New York Times Bestseller Paperback How To List.[6]
  • Your Inner Skinny: Four Steps to Thin Forever (William Morrow, $16.99) was reviewed in the Chicago Tribune [7]
  • Food Cures (ISBN 978-1-60-961312-9) was reviewed by the American Dietetic Association and called "a common-sense, fad-free approach to using food to improve your health and feel your best." Originally published in 2007, it was revised and reissued in 2011.[8]
