Abrams was recruited, along with Jesse Krakow, into Time of Orchids in 1999.[6][7] In 2003, PAK's bassist Krakow asked band leader Ron Anderson to audition Abrams for PAK - Abrams impressed Anderson with his ability to play a difficult passage, without warming up, much faster than its regular tempo, and so he was admitted to the band.[8] Most recently he has joined fellow PAK member Tim Byrnes in Kayo Dot.[9]
