Khet Aung (Burmese: ခက်အောင်; born 1946) is a Burmese politician and currently serving as Chief Minister of Kachin State, the head of the Kachin State Government.[1] He is an ethnic Kachin Christian who worked as a dentist before striking into politics. He ran for state parliament in the November 2015 election, contesting a seat in Myitkyina.[2]
Opponent with brother
Khet Aung’s brother, Khet Htein Nan, is a well-known Kachin politician and former upper house MP. Although his brother was a member of the rival Union Solidarity and Development Party and lost in the 2015 election, Khet Aung ran for the National League for Democracy and secured a seat in the state legislature.
Political career
Khet Aung was not a member of any political party prior to last November’s general election, but became an NLD member in 2015. He has two sons and two daughters.
Personal life
Salai is an ethnic Kachin and practicing Baptist.[3]
