L'ami du Peuple is the seventh full-length album by Chicago musician Mike Kinsella under the moniker Owen.[1] Announced on April 11, 2013, the record was released on July 2, 2013.[2] It features ten tracks, recorded with collaboration from friends in the Chicago area indie scene.
Development
The title of the album was taken from the newspaper of the same name written during the French Revolution. Kinsella states in a press release that he opted to go into the studio and record songs in a more official setting, as opposed to his normal method of recording at home. This helped him in developing the songs more organically and allowed him more opportunity to incorporate a variety of influences. "In the past I've stifled a bunch of my influences and leaned on a couple consistently, but this time I just let each song happen as I heard them and had a lot of fun trying some new things," he says regarding the new process.[3]
