Lae Lae Maw (Burmese: လဲ့လဲ့မော်, also spelt Lei Lei Maw) is a Burmese politician, medical doctor and currently serving as Chief Minister of Tanintharyi Region, the head of Tanintharyi Region Government. She is a second of only two women chief ministers appointed by President Htin Kyaw.

Early life

Lae Lae Maw is an ethnic Karen-Burman, Christian. She worked as a medical doctor for 25 years and has delivered free health care in remote villages.[1]

Political career

She joined the NLD party in 2012, quickly becoming a member of the central executive committee of NLD. After taking office as an MP for Thayetchaung Township, she said she would work to develop the region and solve land disputes.[2] She said her selection to run the region came as a surprise to her, as she only found out the day before parliament made the announcement.[2]

After taking the office, she has launched a sweeping review of oil palm plantations and has tried to ensure the sustainable development of tourism in the Myeik Archipelago.[3]
