Debate

The school is home to the Lakeland District Debate Team, which also includes students from Walter Panas High School. The team has a long and distinguished history and competes successfully on a national level, with members regularly qualifying to compete in national championship tournaments. Former coaches Bill Vogel and Greg Varley are members of the prestigious Key Coach Society of Emory University, and Varley was elected to the National Forensics League Coaches Hall of Fame in 1998. Alumni of the team have gone on to successful careers in government, law, medicine, and international human rights and aid organizations.

Theatre

The school is home to the Wig 'n' Whiskers Drama club, now headed by Mr. Darrin Grimm. The club gained its name and a powerful push in 1959 from Mr. Lee Davis. He was an English teacher at Lakeland who showed love and dedication for theatre. Because of this, many of those who went through the club went into "the business" including Oscar and Emmy award winners. The drama club now produces two main performances a year as well as other smaller, variety shows. The Drama club has received nominations from the Helen Hayes Youth Theatre Awards.

The school is also home to a chapter of the FBLA-PBL student organization. The chapter is well respected among the state and national levels, and is currently advised by math-teacher Charlene Nigro.
