Her sister, Melis, inspired her to start learning to play the piano.[1] In 2010, Melda was the winner of BBC Young Musician of the Year; she received a £2,000 cash prize and a trophy, specially designed by Swansea jewellery designer Mari Thomas.[2] Melda is a pupil at the Purcell School and the Royal College of Music Junior Department, studying with Professor Ian Jones.
