The Leicester Square stabbing was a stabbing attack that occurred on August 12, 2024, in Leicester Square, London, England.

Attack

[edit]

On August 12, 2024, a 32-year-old man wearing an Abbey Road went into Leicester Square, a "tourist hotspot", and stabbed an 11-year-old girl and her mother, a 34-year-old woman. According to witnesses, the man seemed "mentally disturbed" as he randomly went up to the girl and put her in a headlock before stabbing her.[1] The victims of the attack were taken to a hospital and according to the Westminster Police, the victims sustained non-life threatening injuries and also stated the motives of the attack were not terror related.[2] A 29-year-old man by the name of Abdullah, who worked at the near-by TWG tea shop which is next to a LEGO Store and in front of an M&M's store in Leicester Square then tackled the suspect after he stabbed the mother and child,[3] according to an interview done by BBC News, Abdullah heard a scream before jumping and tackling the suspect and kicking the knife out of the attacker's grasp.[4] The suspect was taken by London police not too long after the suspect was tackled by Abdullah.[5] It wasn't until 11:36 AM (UTC+00:00) that a London ambulance would arrive to take the victims to a near-by hospital in order to treat the victims.[6]

The Metropolitan police has stated that they are not looking for anyone else and that there isn't any other suspect/suspects related to this stabbing.[7] This came as a Twitter post by the police where it states "We don't believe there are any outstanding suspects.".[8]
