Elizabeth Krueger is a member of the New York State Senate, representing district 28 on the East Side of Manhattan.

She was first elected in February 2002 during a special election. Krueger is the ranking member on the Senate Finance Committee. She was Chairwoman of NY's Democratic Senate Campaign Committee from 2003 through the 2006 elections. In 2009 Krueger was mentioned as a possible candidate for New York's 14th congressional district.[1]

She holds a B.A. from Northwestern University in Social Policy and Human Development and a master's degree from the University of Chicago's Harris Graduate School of Public Policy.

Political career

A member of the Democratic Party, Krueger has represented much of Manhattan's East Side and East Midtown neighborhoods since her 2002 special election victory, when she captured the last Republican seat in Manhattan for Democrats. Krueger is a veteran member of the Senate's Democratic Conference and serves as ranking member on the Senate's Finance Committee, which has a large role in the state budget process and substantial jurisdiction over legislation moving through the Senate.

Based on the 2010 census, the 28th District contained approximately 318,000 residents, approximately 3.5 percent larger than the mean district size.

Personal life

Krueger was born in 1957 to Harvey and Constance Krueger. One of three sisters in the family, a brother, Peter, died in 1988.[2] Her father was a partner in the investment bank, Kuhn, Loeb and currently serves as vice chairman of Barclays, successor to Lehman Brothers, which merged with Kuhn, Loeb in 1977.[3] She was born and currently lives on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, a borough of New York City. Her husband, Dr. John E. Seley, is a professor of Urban Planning and Geography at The City University of New York Graduate Center and Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School of Public Affairs.
