"Love My Way"
Song

"Love My Way" is a song by English band The Psychedelic Furs. It was released as the first single from their third studio album Forever Now in June 1982. Written by the four members of the group and produced by Todd Rundgren (who also played marimba on the song), the song reached the top 10 of the charts in New Zealand and the top 50 in the United Kingdom and United States.

Release and reception

Released in 1982, "Love My Way" peaked at number nine in New Zealand, where it spent 21 weeks on the chart.[1] The song peaked at number 42 in the UK[2] and number 44 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.[3] It also reached number 30 on the U.S. Mainstream Rock chart and along with the track, "Aeroplane", the song reached number 40 on the Dance Music/Club Play Singles chart.[3]

Allmusic writer Ned Raggett called it "one of the slyest and best singles from the early '80s, a deserved cult hit in the States well-remembered in modern rock circles."[4] Raggett praised the song's "big and crisp" beats provided by drummer Vince Ely, in one of his last credited songs before leaving the group.[4]

The song is featured in the 1983 film Valley Girl and appears on the soundtracks of the 1998 film The Wedding Singer and the 2002 video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on new wave radio station Wave 103.[5] The song is also downloadable content for the Rock Band series of music video games.

Cover versions

I Like It When You Die, Boston-based band Anal Cunt's fourth full-length album (1997), contains a song called "Richard Butler", which is a novelty grindcore medley of "Love My Way" and "Pretty In Pink" by the Psychedelic Furs, and "Mental Hopscotch" by Missing Persons.

Live regularly performed "Love My Way" in 1997 while touring in support of their third album Secret Samadhi.

In 1998 the Texas emo band Mineral released a cover of the song on a B-side of their single "&Serenading", stylized as "LoveMyWay".[6]

In 2006 The Polyphonic Spree recorded a version for their Wait EP.

In 2007 Kate Ceberano recorded a version for her Nine Lime Avenue album.

In 2008, Patrick Wilson of Weezer recorded an acoustic version of the song, which was released as a B-side to the band's single Pork and Beans.

Indie electronic duo The Foxglove Hunt covered the song on their 2008 debut Stop Heartbeat.

In 2015 NYVES covered the song for their debut album "Anxiety".
