Lucius Vipstanus Poplicola
Lucius Vipstanus Poplicola Messalla[1] (c. 10 - aft. 59) was a Roman politician who was Roman consul in AD 48.
Biography
It is assumed that Vipstanus Poplicola was the son of Lucius Vipstanus Gallus and a Valeria Messalla. He was elected consul ordinarius in AD 48, alongside Aulus Vitellius. He was replaced as consul by the consul suffectus Gaius Vipstanus Messalla Gallus, who is postulated to have been his brother.[2][page needed]
In 58 or 59, Vipstanus Poplicola was appointed Proconsular governor of Asia.[3]
According to the historian Ronald Syme, Vipstanus Poplicola's son was Gaius Valerius Poplicola, who was coopted into a sacerdotal college in AD 63, but died sometime after.[4]
