The M84 is the current issue stun grenade of the United States Army. It contains a mix of ammonium and magnesium. Upon detonation, it emits a blinding flash of several million candela and a sound of 170 dB. Exposure to the grenade without ear and eye protection can lead to temporary blindness, bleeding from the ears, and temporary hearing damage.

It can cause an explosion if detonated in the presence of fumes or gases.

Because it is a less-lethal grenade, it is designed not to throw shrapnel or other fragments.
