After both members graduated from Vassar College in 2010, MS MR released two singles, "Hurricane" and "Fantasy". The music video for their debut single "Hurricane" was released on 26 April 2012, with the single released on iTunes on 10 July 2012. It earned positive reviews for its "vintage" sound.[4] The single charted at number 38 in Germany.[5]

"Hurricane" went on to be included on their debut EP, Candy Bar Creep Show, alongside the songs "Bones", "Dark Doo Wop" and "Ash Tree Lane". The EP was released on 14 September 2012.[6]

The music video for their second single "Fantasy" was released on 4 February 2013. The song was later released onto iTunes on 8 March 2013.

Their debut album Secondhand Rapture was released on 14 May 2013, and included all four songs from the prior EP.

MS MR's sound has been compared to Florence and the Machine,[7] Lana Del Rey and Kavinsky.[4]

Four of their songs ("Salty Sweet", "Hurricane", "This Isn't Control" and "Bones") were featured on Pretty Little Liars in 2013.

"Salty Sweet" and "Bones" were used in Season 9 of Grey's Anatomy.

"Bones" was used in a promotional video for Game of Thrones Season 3, in 2013, as well as in a promotional video for the new TNT show Cold Justice.
