Pandit Maniram (1920–1985) was an Indian classical vocalist from the Mewati gharana. Maniram was the eldest son and disciple of Motiram and the guru and elder brother of Jasraj.[1][2]
Early life and training
Born in Haryana to an orthodox Brahmin family with strong musical traditions in the Mewati gharana, Maniram learned from both his father Motiram and uncle until age fourteen, when Motiram died in 1939, after which Maniram became the patriarch of the family and moved them to Hyderabad. Maniram began performing professionally at this point in order to support his family. While Maniram's career grew, he began teaching vocal to his younger brother, Pratap Narayan, and tabla to another brother, Jasraj.
