Maris Pacifici (or more accurately Descriptio Maris Pacifici, Description of the Pacific Sea) was the first dedicated map of the Pacific to be printed. It was drawn by Abraham Ortelius in 1589, based on Frans Hogenberg's map of America from the same year and Vaz Dourado's 1568 description of Japan.[1]
