Martina Thorogood Heemsen (born February 4, 1975 in Valencia) is a Venezuelan pageant titleholder who represented her country at Miss World 1999.

Miss Venezuela
Thorogood, who is 5 ft 10.5 in (1.79 m) tall, competed in the national beauty pageant Miss Venezuela 1999 where she won the title. Also won the special awards of Miss Internet and Miss Integral. She represented the Miranda state at the contest.
Unlike previous Miss Venezuela pageants where the winner was sent to Miss Universe and the 1st Runner-Up was sent to Miss World, Martina was selected to represent Venezuela at both Miss World and Miss Universe. This was due to shocking exclusions of Venezuelan delegates Christina Dieckmann in 1997 and Veronica Schneider in 1998.
Miss World 1999
Thorogood was the official representative of Venezuela to the Miss World 1999 pageant held in London, England, UK on December 4, 1999, where she finished as the 1st Runner-up to the eventual winner, Yukta Mookhey of India.[1][2]
After competing in Miss World she was to compete in Miss Universe 2000 but was denied by the Miss Universe Organization because she was 1st Runner-Up in Miss World and there was a chance that she could become Miss World should the winner resign or lose her crown. As a result, a second, smaller pageant was held among delegates who had competed in previous Miss Venezuela competitions, and Claudia Moreno was chosen to compete at Miss Universe. Moreno also placed 1st Runner-Up. After this the Miss Venezuela Organization reverted to its original system of the winner competing in Miss Universe and the 1st Runner-Up competing in Miss World.
